Tasmanians are
great travellers. They span the globe –
our friends are to be found on canal boats in France, on cruise ships in
Alaska, in Japan, South East Asia, Africa, Canada.
And…in the
Southern Ocean, approaching Antarctica!
Mawson's hut |
My friend Chris
had a month on a ship in this region, and had a wonderful time, especially once
she had mastered a complicated combination of anti-seasickness medication…
Emperor penguin |
She has allowed me
to nick some of her Facebook photos…
Mt Erebus |
It is just about
the polar (pun intended) opposite of Coron!
Last night we took
Jim and Jennie out for dinner, to thank them for their kindness and hospitality
we have been allowed to use one of their
big moorings for the past five months for free, and Jim has been full of help and
advice in many other ways.
Pete, Jim, Jennie, Marguerite |
We went to a brand
new restaurant where they were very eager but maybe not quite ready yet to take
on the grueling job of feeding paying customers…
On the way back, Jim
and Jennie vanished in a puff of smoke on Jim’s big motorbike, and Pete and I
stopped to have a drink in Pete’s friend William’s little bar (Jim and William
are NOT friends.)
Lupita (Slovakia) and William |
We met beautiful girls
and Pete was, understandably, very happy…
