12th April - Boracay tricylce tour - Red Pirates

Sunday 12th April 2015

Meanwhile, back in my beautiful island home, Tasmania…

An albatross sat patiently with a boatful of my family members for a whole day, while they were fishing in their tinny.

So what is about to happen, in Boracay??  My Kitchen Rules, Australia!!  Well….what could be a more beautiful place, for MKR?

Saturday morning I did my swim (26 laps round and around the boat = 72 laps up and down under the boat)…  It was a bit like trying to swim in a very agitated washing machine cycle so it was VERY good exercise.  I can’t see any benefits, to fatness or fitness, YET!!  But I will keep on keeping on.

Pete, in the meantime, put in a solid 8-2.30 at his computer, swearing faintly, doing his accounts.

By three we were walking the beachfront in Boracay, looking for a Indian food, with some success.

At 4.00 we were ready for our Island Trip.  We went up to the main street and negotiated a trip with very pleasant, quiet bloke driving one of the little battery-powered tricycle vans which abound on the island.  We didn’t really have an agenda; we more or else asked him to drive wherever he fancied for an hour and we would pay him what seemed to be a reasonable fee.  Occasionally he would pick up other passengers, some of whom would either pay a minuscule amount (10 pesos) or just hop off without paying at all if they didn’t have the correct change.  It all seemed very random… For quite a long time we had two young women sitting behind us, playing music from an iPod and singing along like little angels to some sort of Philippina Katy Perry.

The far end of the 4km beach
I just loved our trip, up and down steep hills, past shanties, past huge grand resorts, through thick lush green jungle.

Eventually it was time to part from our comfy little van (500 pesos; our driver was very pleased – this is about $15)

Before we tootled the dinghy back to 2XS we stopped at Red Pirates bar for a happy hour cocktail.  We have been parking the dinghy on the beach outside this nice little place every day, and haven’t so much as bought a drink of water, so we thought it was time.

We got chatting, as you do, with other Red Piraters on the beach and – three of them might be hitching a ride to Romblon with us today…  Joey, who is THE Red Pirate, is, apparently, very knowledgeable about the sea and wind round these parts, so we will be very pleased if we find them clambering aboard in a non-piratish way, at 8am.

  1. Anna tells me that a good lap counting strategy is to say the alphabet. Apparently easier to keep track of than numbers.
