18th-20th January - Koh Phi Phi Don - maybe I can post photos today??

Saturday 18th January

We are now anchored, in a stiff wind, off a little beach on Koh Lanta.

This is quite a pretty island but NOT stunning gloriously beautiful like Koh Phi Phi Don, where we anchored last night in a lovely little bay between two fabulous headlands.

Our trip yesterday was all very pleasant.  We had both sails up.

There were adorable little birds on each of the marker poles coming out of Phuket.

Today, however, the wind is fierce…Well over 30 knots all the way.   We only had a small bit of headsail up and some of us, although extremely brave and uncomplaining, were feeling very well at all…

As for Phi Phi – WOO HOO!  One of our friends told us Phi Phi is Patong Beach on steroids.  Indeed!  We went in and had dinner in a little seafood restaurant right on the beach, where longtail boats await their passengers.  There are hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists on the island, all in party mode.  Bars, restaurants, café’s shops, firedancers, all GoGoGo.

We thought it was just great, fascinating, fun.  Woohoo!

Arriving at peaceful Koh Rok Nok
And then we went back to 2XS in our dear little dinghy and…off to bed, presumably to find Sleepyboboland awaiting.  Not so much!   We seemed to be right between two competing sets of extremely loud loudspeakers.  And it was PARTYPARTYPARTY, LET’S GO DO THE CONGA!!!  All night long until – no I am not, for once, exaggerating, 3.30am.  None of the music was in the least pleasant because there were at all times two different songs going at once.   Four hollow-eyed ghouls emerged from their cabins this morning… We all slept in till 8.30 but…this was not enough.

We aren’t game to swim here.  I imagine we would all be ripped out to sea in a matter of seconds.  But Bron, James and I have had two very nice swims off Phi Phi.

Beautiful Koh Rok Nok (James and Bron)
