No Fanny Bay
sunsets today. We left our beautiful
anchorage at 9.30 and we are now propped up, more or less, on a concrete ramp
at the back of Spot On Marine, up Ludmilla River.
When we arrived
it was lined with green green mangroves and very beautiful. It is now a slightly stinky mudflat…
Also when we
arrived we were, as God intended, nicely horizontal, just gently floating on
the high tide. It is now low tide and we
are at a rather steep angle. I can’t
tell you how much I hate this. It is
extraordinarily uncomfortable and it just feels…wrong…
On the good
side, says Pollyanna, we have a lovely long series of extension cords
connecting us to a power box so I have everything plugged in and charging
up. That is very nice indeed.
This morning
Pete had to get into the water with a snorkel and mask, to check on a pesky bit
of rope which had got around the propeller.
The young bloke who works here, Sean, was also in the water, lugging
sandbags so I scurried downstairs to get changed and I too spent a very happy
twenty minutes or so in the blessedly cool water. Safety in numbers! Sean, with his family, lives here in a house
on very tall poles above the marine yard, overlooking the river. He says he hasn’t seen a crocodile here for a
very long time…
I was moved to
take a photo of our fenders, valiantly protecting 2XS from a strong, sharp
concrete wall. Consider the fender –
just a big rubber balloon, really, and look at the punishment it puts up with,
day after day, without bursting and giving up the ghost!
No further
blogposts from Sam, but here is his serious photo:
We are here at
Spot On for nearly a week so I will have to get used to spending a lot of time
at an angle…
