14th July - Darwin day - Museum

Sunday 14th July

Sam’s blog – talking about nasi padang restaurants: They usually have soft drinks, juice and bottled water, but none of them sell beer. Forget about wine. Life can be hard at times.

The only problem with this type of cooking is, although they are pretty tasty, it is not what your doctor would recommend. This is because some of most of the dishes use unhealthy dose of coconut milk. I guess anything that taste good or make you feel good has a price to pay. But for those who never try nasi padang, well, they do not know what they miss.

Yesterday Roseanne tried to take some beautiful boat shots from the nets where she and Jason were enjoying the view:

Not sure what happened but…tricky!!

Everywhere we go, we see one or the other of these converted army ducks:

I think this one looks super cute on the water…and I especially like that it is  called…JEMIMA!  It whizzes around on the roads, doing a bit of a tour of Darwin, then down to the water, onto a concrete ramp and – wheeee – off among the boats.

Yesterday we also saw another cat, up near Tipperary Waters.  We had heard of this boat…it is called TWO XS.

Today has been a bit more touristy than usual.  No traipsing around to light industrial zones.  We rode our bikes to the museum, only a few kilometers away, along the waterfront.  We had a beautiful lunch in the café overlooking the water, then spent a very happy few hours.  A very interesting, pleasant little museum, with a big section about Cyclone Tracey.  Darwin was certainly different before 1974…None of these solid, sturdy houses, hugging the ground, just lots of airy fibro houses on stilts, very nice for the hot hot climate but…no chance of survival against a cyclone like this one.
