2nd May - global children on Rebak Island - last days on the island

Friday 2nd May

Hamish, Johannes, Angus - serious business, posing for a photo...
Hamish and Angus have a very cool new friend, Johannes from Hamburg, now living in Shanghai.  He wasn’t in evidence yesterday morning but eventually, around midday, there he was, beaming, ready for swimmingpool, table tennis, coconut splitting, fun!   Angus asked, Where were you this morning?  His horror when Johannes answered, Doing homework was extreme  But! he spluttered.  You aren’t at HOME!

Emily, Olaf, Michaela, Johannes
They also have another very nice globalchild friend called Kaden, who lives on Micah, a big South African catamaran in the marina.  His beautiful* mother Sharon homeschools him – three or four hours every morning, in the cool open area of the Hard Dock Cafe.   (Not so sure if my boys like the thought of homeschooling...) ard Dock CafĂ©.

These four boys have only had a few days together but…they have had fun!!

We had drinks last night at the beach bar (Lepak)

And then one last dinner in the resort restaurant.

Pete and Nicky
Now they have gone… I went across on the ferry, and then to the airport with them.  The best thing for me to do when they had vanished through the Departures gate was to go all Mad Dogs and Englishmen… I marched off in the midday sun to the Vivanta ferry terminal and the hot HOT sun dried up all my tears - and all other moisture from my body at the same time.

Oh that delicious food!
Tomorrow we are leaving Rebak.  Another wrench… It has been a very comfortable home base since December… But it is indeed time to go.  We will miss everything about this marina – the beautiful resort, the courteous staff, our friends, old and new.  And…the hornbills!

And who was the best card player??  Hamish slowly rose to the top with some very nifty, not to say audacious, bids.  The rest of us occasionally shone, but mostly it was a race to the bottom…

And the photo competition – the best photo was taken by Gavin, who wasn’t really in the competition at all – I think he only took the one photo!  But as Angus said, he had the most excellent material...

The overall winner, however, was Hamish, a most dedicated wildlife photographer.  He won most of the categories.  And the prize?  A Canon Selphy printer, just like mine, to be picked up in Kuala Lumpur Duty Free!

* All four of the boys have beautiful mothers; it seemed to be a theme.
