Yesterday we spent
five hours at MONA, on the lawns, with bright blue sky and brilliant sunshine
and MUSIC! (Ben Salter, Augie March, the
Violent Femmes.)
Several thousand
people peacefully sitting on the grass. And then up and dancing
when the Violent Femmes did their thing.
Pete found a small
patch of shade and huddled there very happily for the first few hours.
I sat on a wooden
hose reel, under my umbrella, next to some nice people from Melbourne, who had
crammed in an amazing number of activities into their five days on the
island. Two little boys called Oscar and
Connor came to talk to me. Connor was
about three and he informed me that they didn’t live “in this country.” They live across the river in Bellerive; they
were only at MONA “for the party.” Fair
enough!
Later when the sun
had lost is ferocity we moved closer to the stage with our friends and
relations.
Such a nice way to
spend the first day of the year.
