3rd December - seasick friends on 2XS

Wednesday 3rd November

Beautiful bark on a beautiful tree in Launceston (snow gum??)
We managed to squeeze in dinner with Steve Mason on Sunday night.  Amazing logistics: he was in Launceston while we were in Hobart; we were in Launceston when he was in Hobart; he was flying back to Flinders Island from Launceston on Monday afternoon after a swift weekend in Richmond…We did so well to get a few hours with him with all of us in the one place!

Steve
Steve is a distant cousin of Pete’s, and a reasonably regular, and very welcome, crew member on 2XS.  He sailed with us to New Caledonia in 2011, and was, along with most of us on board, very seasick.  He, Nick and I passed the bucket dismally from one to the other ands we swapped shifts… But he didn’t complain, and pulled his weight, and we loved having him.

A year or so later he came to help out on the trip from Sydney to Melbourne, while I went home to welcome a new baby (Rose, now 2½).

Rose
Poor Steve… It was dismal, squally weather and they had to turn back into Eden at one stage.  Steve’s bed was soaking wet and…he was horribly seasick.  I am amazed he still speaks to us, and stays interested in the adventures of 2XS…

Another auspicious birthday today – Pete Harmsen was 55 yesterday and his beautiful bride of many years is 50 today!  Happy birthday dear Andrea…we all love having you in our family.

Andrea
