Racing a fishing boat into Kuala Terengganu |
I am grieving a
bit for our beautiful Pulau Kapas.
Instead of clear
32 degree water full of coral, clams, fish, not to mention cheery locals in
bright orange life-jackets
we have a very
nice pool, at the far end of the large resort attached to the marina. The water there is also 32 degrees, but…with
no shade, no coral, clams, fish or cheery locals in orange life jackets…
It only took a few
hours to get from there to here, here being Kuala Terengganu. The marina workers were waiting for us, very
ready to help us tie up and get connected to water and power. Wreathed in smiles: How
many more boats are coming, for the East Malaysian Rally?? Oh dear…we said maybe eight, or ten…and
in fact nearly all of the rally boats have turned up but only three of us have
tied up to the marina. The others are
anchored a few metres away…they are saving their ringgits…* This is very sad; this little marina has
pulled out the stops for the rally, and they are giving us a special discounted
rate of 30 ringgits** per night. The
three Australian boats which are actually at the marina, spending their
hard-earned 30 ringgits, will have to be extra appreciative to make up for The
Others…
Tomorrow there is
another rally tour – who knows where we will go this time? Maybe there will be more turtles to be
released into the deep blue sea?? The
only thing I know is that we are being taken en masse to Immigration, Customs etc because we have to sign in,
yet again – so many copies of our passports and documents have already filled
filing cabinets all over Malaysia, I am not sure why. I suppose it keeps a few office workers
gainfully employed…
Beautiful East Malaysian sky |
* Or maybe they have seen the enormous water monitors darting around between the boats tied up to the pontoons...I am poised, ready, with my camera!
