17th May - Singapore to Batam Island (Indonesia) - Nongsa Point Marina

Saturday 17th May

The siren call of Nongsa Point marina proved too much for us…so now we are here for two nights.  We didn’t have clearance into Indonesia so we thought we would just fly in/fly out but…

Adamanto and two government officials stamped and cleared our papers so swiftly and pleasantly that…here we are, on Batam Island.  It just so happened we had some Indonesian rupiah hidden away in our money-hiding places, so we have about $130 to spend - might as well do it here!

It is all very pretty

The pool is cool and refreshing; the sunsets are gorgeous…we will continue on our Epic Journey to catch up with the rally…tomorrow…

(This reminds me of something our lovely Sam, one of the organisers of the Indonesian Rally last year, said in a briefing session:

People sometimes ask if there is an Indonesian equivalent of mañana…and I always tell them that no, there is no word which conveys quite the same degree of urgency…)
