Last night we
anchored in Sebu Passage. All very
pleasant – flat, calm, easy. Except for –
swarms of flying insects which drove us totally insane!! They calmed down when we turned off all of
the lights, including our iPad screens, but this meant we had to go to bed and
to Sleepyboboland slightly earlier than we might have wished.
We are now swinging
off a huge mooring off the main little town on beautiful Tioman Island. No room at the marina…and the water is too
deep to anchor. We just have to hope
that none of the big ferryboats which own the moorings need to come in tonight.
We had to go into
the town to check in with harbor master, immigration, customs. I carried around a stash of post cards to
mail, and I did find a lovely little post office. All chained up for a long lunch break and
siesta, with no post box outside the chained-off area…
We saw a bit of
the island:
A deep creek,
overhung with trees, sheltering several peaceful rotting wrecks.
A very short
runway – I gather it is quite an experience to see a plane screech to a halt
here, but today nothing was happening in the air.
A restaurant
selling Smiling Hot Dogs. (No we didn’t
have one of these delicacies…but we did have chicken & rice, the other
specialty of the house, and it was very nice.)
Tomorrow we will
leave early again and make our way towards Kuala Terengganu – I think that some
of the rally boats will still be there.
Some are actually here, in the marina, waiting to go to Kuching - they
have already been to the northern islands and are just going to bide their time
on beautiful Tioman.
