10h November - Danga Bay Marina - Malaysia

Sunday 10th November

We spent a few very frustrating hours in the Danga Bay Mall, trying to get wireless connection for the computer. Well, not Pete – he trotted off in search of a fan for the boat, and came back, triumphant, after a kilometer or so of very hot trudging away from the mall into a light industrial zone.

He came back with this:

How cute is that??  I exclaimed at its roundness and smallness and Pete said, in soothing but slightly sarcastic tones, Yes well you don’t often see a square fan…If this little fan works we will buy two more and our sleepinglife will be transformed with cool breezes!  Never mind that many of our boatfriends are installing air-conditioning units, with little generators to run them.  Ho ho!  They are so pleased and proud – no more steamy nights for them!

This is what it looks like outside 2XS when the sun goes down.  Hot neon!!  And this is why we were so very confused when we tried to find the marina in the dark, when we first arrived on the 9th of October.  No wonder, when Pete asked me if I could see the marina, I said, No I can only see a roller coaster.

And yes it rains a lot here
The water here is so very filthy.  And yes more than a bit stinky.  John and Irina told us that a few days ago the boats in the marina had a stately visit from a very dead, bloated and headless cow. Poor thing… She did a slow circuit of the marina, then did it again, while people watched, uneasily, from their decks.  John is a very cheery man.  That’s nothing!  Apparently six months ago there were two dead bodies doing a circuit.  The police didn’t want to know neither did the local authorities so the marina security guards dragged hem out of the water and lay them on the pontoons, between the boats… I think life is cheap, in these parts.

Today we are doing a tour of Johor Baru.  And sadly (I did ask) we are going past (not into) Lego World Malaysia.  I was hoping we could have a nice little frolic amongst the bright plastic artefacts.
