13th October - Manila to KL

Monday 13th October

Pete loves the Manila Marshalls
am

It took exactly twelve hours to get from the Tune Hotel (Manila) to the Geo Hotel) Kuala Lumpur.  Only a three hour flight but long taxi trips and long queues on either side…

Last glimpse of Manila Gold Gold Gold
We were going to have a swift look at the Mall of Asia – a gigantic mall, until recently the biggest in all of Asia.  It has been surpassed now – of course – by bigger ones in China and Dubai.  We asked a taxi driver outside the hotel and he said that the mall didn’t open until 10.30 – we had to leave at 11.  So instead we went for a stroll around our neighborhood.  I found a beautiful cat.

Some less inspiring jobs to apply for…I wouldn’t qualify on any count, and I wonder what happens to these “goodlooking girls” once they pass the age of 25, or acquire (develop??) a less than pleasing personality??

Manila is very much a mecca for girly bars and strange cabarets.

But we wandered along, finding ourselves in a very salubrious leafy avenue.

Lanterns in the trees...Manila can be very mellow
There were gated communities on either side, and an extremely luxurious shopping mall.  Pete gazed in fascination at a vintage Morgan – it was that sort of mall…

There were more shops for men than for women – amazing shops where one could buy a bowler hat and an exquisitely cut suit, and where everything was folded with precision and attention to detail.

We didn’t buy anything…

And now we have a KL day ahead of us.  I am very much inclined NOT to rush about too much but – you never know what the day will bring…

Our familiar place in KL - Geo Hotel!

Pete’s breakfast today, in the Central Market, was not delicious…He ate it quite happily but oh dear I am glad I did not order those slimy eggs…In general the chefs in Malaysia are NOT the same as the chefs in the Philippines…

pm

We did not rush about; we had a relatively sedate day.  Thank goodness!  Pete bought new shoes!  Red letter day!  His old Rockports, much loved, are falling apart and I gently steered him towards some fabulous Joseph Siebel beauties, reduced 40% and therefore very cheap (relatively…).  He couldn’t resist, once he had tried them on and found how very comfortable they are.
