We are in a
beautiful anchorage surrounded by local “spider boats.” SO beautiful…
We had barely
anchored before we had visitors – young lads (Jason and Aaron) from a nearby spiderboat, with a
large tunas, just for us. And what did
they want in return? NOTHING! They were quite shocked…
So of course we
invited them on board and gave them t-shirts and caps. I took photos and printed them off on my
little Canon Selphy; they were THRILLED.
Come to think of it I imagine they were sent over by the men on their larger boat, hoping for, maybe whisk y and cigarettes… Instead the boys came back, triumphant, with gifts only for themselves. I hope we haven’t broken protocol… But everyone looks very mellow and kindly, on their beautiful bright boats.

We had a long day
sailing up from Sir James Brooke Point, with big sea, but fortunately it (ie
the sea!) was going the same way as we were so it wasn’t a struggle. We are still overwhelmed with the beauty of
Palawan Island, seen from the water – high mountains, much greenery.
Sunday 7th September
Abanico Yacht Club anchorage
09 degrees 45.886N
118 degrees 43.737E
We arrived at this
anchorage at exactly 12 noon. Time for a
beer! Time for lunch at the yacht club!!
It was a very
pleasant cruise up the beautiful coast.
I was wildly excited to see a big pod of dolphins, quite close by. We haven’t seen anything like this number
since we left Australia, only the odd shy little splish and splash of the odd
lone rare dolphin.
Whoever was on the
helm had to keep a keen lookout – tiny boats would suddenly appear, motionless,
right in front, ready to be crushed by 2XS.
Very proud to report we didn’t crush anyone or anything…
As we came into the harbor at Puerto Princesa the cutest little boat in the world came out to meet us, and to followed us in – Doo Dabs, improbably from Langkawi. Surely it didn’t chug all the way here?? (No…all is now revealed. It has been built right here at the yacht club, by John Leader, and his wife Cissy is taking it for sea trials. It is only registered in Langkawi…)

It looks like a toy!
