26th December - more marina days

Thursday 26th December

My beautiful Christmas present from Pete - a Royal Selangor pewter candle holder
Our Christmas lunch at the resort restaurant was very pleasant and festive. Lots of our sailingfriends around us, lots of food, free-flowing sparkling wine.

Followed by a long swim in the clean blue pool.  We were with Australians, mostly – our European friends have all left, for Thailand, or Europe.  And yes some (ex)Tasmanians…

For some extraordinary reason Computer said YES and allowed me to write my blog, and even to reply to one or two emails.  This has never happened before, on the boat in this marina.  Usually I have to wander around the resort trying to find a place with a bit of reception.   But…I was NOT allowed to put up any photos.  Maybe today by the pool??

I have spent the morning being very happily domesticated – cleaning all flat surfaces, and preparing a very very simple dinner* for four** of our friends…but SIMPLE does not mean that preparation is not time consuming…

Over the past few days of festivities we have talked to lots of people about their sailing adventures.  On the ferry I sat with a woman from Glasgow, who says she and her Peter have just celebrated TWENTY years of sailing hither and yon… They sold up all their property in Scotland and took to the sea so very long ago.  I can’t imagine doing this… She says they really don’t have anything to go back to the UK for – grown-up children with their own lives, a dismal climate, a much more expensive place to live.***

* chicken schnitzel, potato salad, Greek salad, caramalised shallots, in case you REALLY want to know…

** Andrew and Sue from SV Settlement, recently arrived in Rebak marina; Jen and Irvin from SV Backchat.  Jen and Irvin actually arrived on Settlement…poor Backchat is in Danga Bay, awaiting the arriving of TWO brand new engines from…Italy.  It is all taking a long time…and they needed a bit of a break so they are having a week of R & R in Rebak marina, making the very most of the resort and the facilities.

*** Yes I did understand her situation but…would still rather be returning, sooner rather than later, to my own beloved chilly expensive little island home…
