12th December - Telaga anchorage - back to Rebak marina

Thursday 12th December

9AM

Right now we are anchored near Telaga marina, quite along way from Kuah, about an hour from Rebak Island.  It is very beautiful here, with many small islands dotted around, and majestic mountains, thickly forested, sweeping down to the coastline.

On top of this mountain is a cable car!  We could see the gondolas swinging across the top of the mountain in the late afternoon light.  So maybe today we can go UP and look DOWN at 2XS.  The whole system is apparently built, operated and maintained by The Swiss.  Therefore we can be certain it is very safe and in meticulous order!

A gift fromTanzania to Malaysia, in the Galeria Perdana

We only had one night at Rebak marina, and two swims in the beautiful pool.  The resort is also very beautiful, and peaceful.  People emerge from their lovely rooms, idle down to the pool, swim around a bit, then lie on deck chairs, reading or snoozing.  There are lots of activities available – tennis courts, volleyball, squash.  But…it is so hot.  Gently snoozing seems to be the best option.

I did all of this…swim, read, loll on deck chair.  But…I got restless and slightly achey - deck chairs aren’t ever all that comfy, are they??  So I went back to the boat and tried, with very limited success, to get onto the internet and do my blog.  Computer said NO, basically, and took many hours to load so maybe I would have been better, after all, idling by the pool.

We said goodbye to our lovely Cheryl.  She has been on three different catamarans since Danga Bay – 2XS, Allicat, and Kularoo.  Now she is returning to Danga Bay, to join her Phil, and to get back on board Adagio.  Adagio is a nice boat but…it is a monohull, and not very roomy.  Cheryl will be very happy to see Phil, and she does love Adagio, but..she is going to have to adjust to smaller spaces.

As for Phil, he has been, for the past month, fixing the engine.  It has been a long drawn out process.  Very stressful, I imagine.  For example, the parts arrived and the whole thing was ready to install on Monday.  But…one of the pipes bent left instead of right so it had to be sent back.  Maybe it will arrive today – que sera sera.  Danga Bay has been quite a nice place for him to be.  There are lots of friendly yachties in the marina, ready to go for a meal, to have sundowners on board.  But (there always seems to be a but…) it has been raining ferociously and constantly, and the whole place is teeming with wildlife.  Small bitey wildlife – midgies and mosquitoes.  I am SO glad I am not there!

There were lots of bities in Rebak marina too.  When we first arrived for dinner on beautiful elegant Micromegas, we all sat and scratched and slapped at our limbs until the mosquito coils at our feet had taken effect.  We also had to spray clouds of poison round the table to repel all comers a bit more thoroughly.

2PM

We ran out of power – those damned batteries – so we are back at Rebak marina…
A bit of Rebak wildlife

10th December - this bit went missing, unaccountably - Cyberspace is mysterious!

Tonight we had  Swiss cheese fondue on board Micromegas, with Chantal and Fredy.  Fredy will be very happy; he won one of the major category prizes in the rally photo competition, with a beautiful photo of the Petronas towers, reflected.  You will I am sure be amazed to hear that I didn’t win any prizes at all.  Nevertheless I am very happy because I had eight photos selected for judging, so I am very pleased.  My crate of mysterious reindeer and my mating water monitors got quite a few votes, as well they might!  (But not enough to win.)

The lighthouse at Telaga - so pretty!
