Another treasure from that mysterious Oatlands
paddock… Yes! A Model T Ford!!
The big cruise liner, Carnival Spirit, has been in
town quite frequently. I imagine that people
arrive in Hobart and exclaim at the prettiness of the city, the beautify of the
waterfront, and then they wander around southern Tasmania for a day, loving every
minute. Well maybe not always… The
Carnival Spirit agenda promises a trip form Sydney to New Caledonia and Vanuatu…
But…if the weather is stormy in the South Pacific, they divert the boat and cruise
to…Hobart. This happened last week, and
on the boat was a honeymoon couple. From…Hobart…
Our laketime was wonderful. John and Catherine are wonderful hosts – everything
is very relaxed and easy; they always have very delicious food; the environment
at Highland Waters is glorious.
I went for a swim in the lake, and then for a paddle
in a little yellow canoe. We walked around
the lake twice (5ks), from both directions.
And found a glistening snakeskin…
We also made new friends, Lance and Beth.

And we had the constant happy company of Billy the
Dog. Catherine has to go away for work a
lot, leaving John and Billy alone together in Hobart. They snuggle up in front of the TV and watch the Discovery Channel. Billy is particularly fascinated by bears and
goes right up to the screen to examine them closer. But on one of the programs they starred a
pack of beautiful wolves. He looked at
them with narrowed eyes, and when one of the wolves was shown in close-up snarling
into the camera, Billy leapt for safety and John found himself with a very
large fluffy dog in his lap…
