3rd February - Barbara Moncrieff

A bit of Oatlands streetscape as contrast to sadstory
Today – a sad blogpost.

In 2013 when we sailed 2XS up to Cairns, we had the intention of turning right and going to the Louisiades, against wind and tide and wave.

However, in Blue Water marina we met a group of people who had just returned from four years of sailing through South East Asia, as well as another group about to join the Sail Indonesia rally.  We were inspired; we turned left instead of right.

Tim and Barb
The people who were most influential were Tim and Barbara Moncrieff, from Hawley, in NW Tasmania.  Tim is a quiet farmer; Barbara a most vibrant, knowledgeable, enthusiastic person.  We learned such a lot from her in particular, in the few days we had together.

Last time we were in Hobart they came to visit, and they were still full of plans and excitement, although they had sold their beloved Rubicon Star.  More adventures lay ahead!

I sent them an invitation last week, and got a sad reply from Tim…Barbara died suddenly at home in Hawley, last year…

She will be missed so much by all who knew her.
