3rd November - remembering our boatpython (Friwin Island, Raja Ampat,Papua)

Tuesday 3rd November 2015

We often think about our BoatPython.  Especially when we get up in the middle of the night… Pete is profoundly grateful he didn’t tread on it in the dark; that would have been truly ghastly!

The funniest thing about it was how very unafraid it was of us.  In fact, when I was sitting at my computer, googling How to handle a python, and reading that it was important not to go close to the snake’s head, or to frighten it, our very own python was slithering confidently along behind the computer and across my iPad.  I thought that any minute now it was going to snuggle on down in my lap for a snooze…

We have no idea how it got on board, or into the cabin.  Through one of the hatches, presumably, and it must have swum out to the boat and up the ladder to investigate.  But why?  And what was it looking for?  We thought it might be after our eggs but it made its way across our eggcarton without the least interest, and was more inclined to go in and out of the cupboard which contains soy sauce, mustard, and marmalade!  A mystery of the sea…
