17th March - Vanuatu cyclone

A canoe full of children in the more remote islands of vanuatu
Devastation continues in Vanuatu.  It is time for us all to crank out some aid money – maybe Save the Children?  Not sure about aid…not sure if it really gets where it is needed, but what else can we do?

When we were in the islands we noticed, to our dismay, that a lot of the traditional huts were being renovated…the thatched roofs being replaced with lethal corrugated iron.  This is courtesy of aid projects, or government deals.  I can think of many things which would be more useful – wells for fresh water, for a start.

Apart from the fact that the iron looks ghastly, it is also – lethal in high winds!

The good news today in Tasmania is…

Today is Jemima’s 7th birthday!  Jemima is gentle, kind and very brave.  She has conquered her fear of furry creatures and now spends hours lying on the floor with large friendly family dogs, enjoying every minute, while still just a tiny bit…terrified.  We all enjoy her company very much.
