Tindakon Dazang Beach sunset (not Kudat...) |
When we were having
dinner at the marina in Kota Kinabalu, Pete put his hat on the ground, under his
chair – as you do. The waiter looked
horrified and scampered up to put it on its very own chair. We
NEVER put a hat on the ground, in Malaysia, he explained. It is
very disrespectful!
Live and learn…
Yesterday I spoke
to Katy on the phone. She is very
intrigued. Eva’s prep class (6 year
olds) was about to put on a performance at the weekly school assembly
entitled…Lego Zumba… The mind boggles! Eva has been totally silent on the
topic; she has obviously been sworn to secrecy by her teachers and she is very
law-abiding so she hasn’t spilled a single bean. Lego Zumba???

So… we didn’t
leave Kudat. Pete and Rob spent many
MANY hours at a plethora of computers, all lined up, studiously examining
weather charts, downloading this and that.
I didn’t do anything very challenging… I played with my computer,
struggled with my Facebook inadequacies (WHY can’t I download photos from my
computer, only from my iPhone??) and made sure Pete and Rob did not expire from
thirst or hunger.
Paul (SV Calypso)
came to join us in the common room, bleeding slightly from the temple. He entertained us mightily with his tale of
woe… We have, he said, a washing
machine aboard Calypso. And you’re looking at it!
This morning he
was very pleased with his lovely clean dry washing, and went to gather it to
his bosom in one large clump. He leaned
over the side and saw…one of Maureen’s bras, delicately floating away. What followed was a bit of risky business,
which ended with him falling into the water, with Maureen’s rescued bra clamped
between his teeth. He managed to get
into the dinghy and back onto Calypso with a very wet wallet, a bit of a bloody
wound, and a good story for the next few days.
Maybe we are leaving
Kudat today…The islands beckon!
