20th March - Tanah Rata (Cameron Highlands) to Gemas - jungle railway

Thursday 20th March

Well we survived the Jungle Railway*

and we tucked up in an obscure hotel (the Tropicana…) in Gemas, an obscure little town in the heart of Malaysia.

We left Tanah Rata at 8.30, crammed into a fifteen seater van with fifteen very squashed people – some of them VERY large – and all of them with luggage…  Halfway down the road, the back door opened and – oh no – backpacks hurtled out behind us… We got the packs back but the owners were deeply unhappy and could be seen gently stroking their packs, with looks of dismay and distress.

We caught the bus at Gua Musang, with 6 minutes to spare, and got to Gemas at 7pm.   This may not sound exhausting but - it is!!

Today we have to catch two local buses to get ourselves to Molucca/Melaka.  No time to write more; we have to dash about, dragging our bags behind us.

We are now TOO HOT again...I always find something to complain about!!

* Too sad…only little bits of jungle to be seen…most of this area is planted, thickly, with palm oil trees… Thousands of hectares...
