11th February - Nai Harn Bay - Big Buddha etc

Tuesday 11th February

8.30am

Yesterday, after my beautiful long swim, we went ashore with Andrew and Sue (Settlement) and hired a car.

First thing – I found a shop which sells stamps, and… a shy little letterbox!  So, at last, another batch of postcards are on their way, albeit slowly, to Pete’s and my (16, combined…) grandchildren.

Our friends hadn’t been to Patong Beach, so we drove down the beautiful coast and sent quite a few hours in this frenetic beachtown, showing them The Sights.

A whole line of massage therapy (in JungCeylon) -not very private -
most massage places are a bit less ummmm clinical...
It was quite a lot dirtier and smellier than when we left last week, but it was all still very interesting.  And exhausting!

We are about to use our second day of hire car – maybe will go up to the Big Buddha.  We did try, on our way back but…the sun was setting and it would have been totally dark by the time we got there so…delayed gratification!

5.30pm

All day long people swim up to, around, and past 2XS.

Sometimes they stop for a chat; sometimes they wave; others just glare.  The Russians seen to be VERY good swimmers.  We have just had a gaggle  Trois Français, chattering away, and attaching themselves to the lower steps of 2XS as they rest from their exertions.  They are oblivious to us…we are only metres away, sipping our cool drinks and waiting for our guests to arrive for sundowners…

9.15pm

Ou guests have left.

We provided:

Parapenters

Sunset

Food…drinks…chat

And today we saw the fabulous Big Buddha, still under construction.  It is considered to be the biggest construction project in Phuket…and there are MANY projects!!

LOVE this colonnade of golden statues!

  1. This reminds me of when about 16 of us did a lagoon float with the outgoing tide. We let ourselves drift between the two hulls of a catamaran chatting away. As we popped out the other end the very perplexed owners were peering over the bow wondering what on earth was happening under their boat. They seemed cheerfully bemused.
