Wednesday 2nd September
Ah well…we thought
we would take the dinghy into the rockpile which constitutes the dinghy dock
and go off to
market to buy some potatoes etc, and have a stroll round downtown Tahuna. We had a (very late) soup lunch at a small restaurant
in town, where they had the TV playing a most melodramatic soapy called Abyss
of Passion. Loved it! No need to understand either then language it
was in, or to be able to read the subtitles.
Upstairs there was
furniture made of my favourite (endemic to Sangihe) batik bamboo.
This was at 4.00…at
7pm we had a whole crowd on and around the boat, Customs and Coast Guard, all asking
for copies of our Immigration and Customs documents. WHY are
you still in Indonesia? Well…we
checked out in Sorong and it takes a while to get from there to any other
country…You must leave NOW! Well yes but it is dark and we are leaving at
6am…
They were all perfectly
polite and pleasant but it wasn’t exactly fun.
Our lovely friend David, who works in Immigration, and who took us for a
tour round Sangihe last tem we were here, came to our rescue. He said that OBVIOUSLY we had to stop in
Sangihe, because Peter has a very sore leg and he need to buy medication. Thank God for Pete’s poor sore leg…
