6th August - dogs in Raja Ampat (Papua)

Thursday 6th August 2015

Dogs in the small sliver of Papua that I have seen thus far are a mixed bag.  Some of them are a total nightmare – mangy, hairless, full of tumours, looking more like a nightmare than a canine.  Nearly as bad as the dogs in the communities in the Northern Territory.  NOT as terrifying… One of them grabbed the hem of my dress as I walked past the other day, on Doom Island, but it wasn’t actually an attack, just a WHAT WAS THAT???

But for the most part dogs are cheery and self-sufficient, glossy and healthy.  At Friwin Island (oh our blissful Friwin…) I was very amused to see the dogs taking themselves for important little missions along the beach.  Tritty trot…

Often with a puppy following along.
