12th August - Tawau (Borneo)

Tuesday 12th August

Photo taken by Janice and Mick (SV Zoa)

John Miedecke, back in Hobart, has suggested a name for the shiny new dinghy – Margarita!  I think this is a great name for a shiny little dinghy but maybe… For Pete’s Sake would be even better…

We had a mini storm this morning.  Not enough to fill more than half a bucket, but certainly enough to swirl a whole lot of logs, rubbish and general crapola all around the boats.

Most of us spent the morning bent over various electronic devices.

And then it was time to go to downtown Tawau.

I bought: new sunglasses because my poor Oakleys are so scratched I can hardly see though them at all, and…a new umbrella to replace the one which got lost in The Dinghy Disaster.  I asked Emma to take a photo of the whole new ensemble outside the Yamaha shop where Pete found our shiny NEW dinghy.

Tonight is the final rally dinner – farewell to Sail Malaysia – Passage to the East…Most of the boats are going south, to Indonesia.  Only two are returning up the Borneo coast.  We will be VERY sad to farewell our friends…We have one more days here in Tawau; time to stock up the depleted food supplies yet again.

  2. The self appointed fashion police rep approves of the new sunnies! Love both names for the boat - how to choose?

  3. I was about to write that Jacqui would be pleased about the sunglasses but I see she's already commented! Yes both boat names are brilliant.
